Simple fix for now:

mkdir /usr/share/engine
echo - > /usr/share/engine/prosvc_stdout.log

I'm unable to reproduce this. Can you provide some more info:

1) What directory were you in when you started msfconsole?
2) Do you have the "metasploit" package installed? (dpkg -l | grep metasploit), or just metasploit-framework.

Give me some hours to try reproduce it. I have at least 10 computers running Kali with different configurations, but this was on a clean install of x64bit v1.0.5 iso. I will look around for it again.

This bug is no longer relevant with Kali 2 and metasploit-framework.
