Description | When trying to install using the graphical launcher on a VMware VM, the graphical installer does not launch, and instead, a repeating error message is displayed. This is using the latest W40 ISO. | ||||

Thanks for the report. After trying older weekly images, I can say it broke with 2024-W38. 2024-W37 is the last weekly image where it works. |

Update. So the bug is reported at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1075713. In short: a change in recent kernel makes the xorg server very unhappy in some cases. Someone went through heroic efforts to troubleshot the issue, and even came up with a fix for the xorg server. I applied the fix in Kali, it will be released in the next round of weekly images (2024-W42 due next Monday, 14th of October). I can confirm that it fixes the crash for QEMU with qxl graphics backend. @imjustanoob If you have a moment next week, that would be fantastic if you could download the weekly installer ISO and confirm that it's fixed for VMware as well (I don't have VMware to test it myself).
