Summary | 0009018: NetworkManager Crashes After Updating Packages
Description | I have an ALFA AWUS036AXML and I have all the correct drivers. I've done 3 fresh new installs and my wireless adapter works no problem, I can do packet injection, managed and monitor mode but as soon as I fully update and upgrade it to the newest versions. My network manager or something just freezes up and crashes and its driving me nuts. Its not really like crashing or anything but whenever I try to do anything with it it just freezes up, but if I do a fresh install and dont update anything, it works no problems. I even attempted to install the linux drivers for it after it occurred and it just kept doing it... can anyone point me in the right direction? For now I guess I'm just not updating it? I've used it for months with no problems but when I fully updated it with apt update and apt upgrade something with the newest updates is crashing it.. I'm using the Kali everything, and I've done apt full-upgrade and I've checked the logs and theres nothing in there other than NetworkManager being enabled and disabled from me disabling it and reenabling it.. it's hard to explain what's happening it's not like it's fully crashing it just lags out and won't do anything with my wireless adapter.. if I just don't do a full upgrade and keep it from a fresh install or even just do an update, it's fine.. but as soon as I do a upgrade on my packages.. it's rendered useless... I can't seem to figure this out..

You didn't tell us which version of Kali Everything you use. Also, do you start from the live image or the installer image? If it's a regression in the kernel and/or firmware, there's nothing we can do, apart from hoping it gets noticed and fixed. |
|
Before updating again its at 6.8.11-amd64, its the installer image. |
|
I mean, what's the version of the installer iso? 2024.3, 2024.2, or even older? We sometimes have users who open a bug report, and we find out they use an old ISO that is 2 years old. |

Ok, so it means If you have time, you can do more google search to see if this exact issue has been reported. We're looking for a regression, either in the kernel or the mediatek firmware, that occured after the two versions mentioned above. |
