Summary0009091: missing package for dante socks server
Description

Hello,

I wanted to use the dante socks server but realized it is no longer in kali's repositories: https://pkg.kali.org/pkg/dante#

It was removed last year, but I can't find any reason.

The package is still in debian's repositories: https://packages.debian.org/buster/dante-server

Is there a way to have it back on kali's as weel?

Thanks a bunch!

PS: I've looked into using hpsocksd instead, but Ii find it difficult to configure and use as a service :-/

Additionnaly, hpsockd does not support IPv6. It seems to also have problem with multiple addresses on the same interfaces (which happens as soon as we have a dual stack system IPv4&IPv6) :-O

Reasons can be always found on e.g. the "News" here https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/dante which links to:

https://tracker.debian.org/news/1527323/dante-removed-from-testing/

and further to:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1067709

But it seems the package arrived in "unstable" again and will probably be back in Kali once it lands in Debian "testing".

oh, I did not know it worked like this between debian testing and kali!

I guess I just have to wait a bit more then!

Thank you! :-)

I only learned this recently and suggested to the kali team an update of the documentation here: 0008959
