Description

Subject: Mesa i386 packages stuck at b2 while amd64 is at b3

The i386 Mesa packages have been at 25.2.8-2+b2 for about a week now, but amd64 updated to 25.2.8-2+b3. This breaks multiarch since Mesa requires exact version matches between architectures.

Can't install any i386 Mesa libs (libegl-mesa0:i386, libgbm1:i386, etc.) because of the version conflict. Breaks Wine/Steam for anyone who needs 32-bit graphics support.

Is there a build issue with i386 or can these get rebuilt to b3?

apt policy mesa-vulkan-drivers:i386
sudo apt install mesa-vulkan-drivers:i386

You probably need to ask Debian (on which the majority of base Kali packages are based on) on the reason:

Yes, as the packages are coming / getting imported from Debian you won't find anything useful in a Kail bugtracker ;-)

Just contact the Debian team about your concerns :-)

It should be fixed with latest mesa 25.3.2-2, which is in kali-dev already. I'm trying to make it migrate to kali-rolling asap.

mesa 25.3.2-2 is now in kali-rolling so the issue should be fixed. Thanks for the report.

The issue is not fully resolved. While mesa 25.3.2-2 successfully installed for amd64, the i386 packages still cannot be installed due to a libllvm21 version mismatch between architectures.

Root cause:
libllvm21:amd64 = 1:21.1.8-1
libllvm21:i386 = 1:21.1.8-1+b1

Current status:
mesa-vulkan-drivers:amd64 = 25.3.2-2 (installed and working)
mesa i386 packages fail to install
These packages have a Breaks relationship requiring exact version match, but the versions don't align between architectures.

Error output:

Solving dependencies... Error!  
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
