Description

Kali after updating to the latest version 1.0.5, nvidia drivers do not work go in black screen, I tried to reinstall three different drivers getting the same error I tried to install cuda but the installation fails by returning to an error
"unable to build unified memory module"
my machine is equipped with a processor intel pentium 4 3.4 Ghz motherboard asrok G41M-S3 video card nvidia ge force gt 630 and 8 gb of ram
the error is this:

make[1]: [sub-make] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-3.12-kali1-common'
NVIDIA: left KBUILD.
nvidia-uvm.ko failed to build!
make:
[nvidia-uvm.ko] Error 1
-> Error.
ERROR: Unable to build the Unified Memory kernel module.
-> done.

the packet error cuda is this:

ERROR: Unable to build the NVIDIA kernel module.
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file

   '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find

   suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available

   on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com.

The driver installation is unable to locate the kernel source. Please make sure that the kernel source packages are installed and set up correctly.
If you know that the kernel source packages are installed and set up correctly, you may pass the location of the kernel source with the '--kernel-source-path' flag.

the same problem also occurs with a clean installation of version kali 1.0.6 yesterday I reported the same problem

We have updated the nvidia-drivers provided in Kali to work with Linux 3.12. Use those and you should be fine. Install nvidia-kernel-dkms for instance.
