Summary0000982: kali-linux-1.0.6-vm-amd64 VM will not play in VMware Workstation 9.0.2
Description

Not sure if this the right place to report this, but I downloaded the Kali Linux VMware image for 1.0.6 amd64 and attempted to load it in Workstation 9.0.2.

VMware displayed a dialog indicating that the configuration in the vmx file was incompatible with the version of workstation I was using.

I double checked the sha1 of the 7z file I downloaded and it matched the sha1hash value listed on http://www.offensive-security.com/kali-llnux-vmware-arm-image-download/

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Download kali-linux-1.0.6-vm-amd64.7z from http://www.offensive-security.com/kali-llnux-vmware-arm-image-download/

  2. Extract and open the vmx file with VMware Workstation 9.0.2

  3. Attempt to power on the virtual machine

  4. Get presented with the error dialog

Additional Information

I realize that OffSec are the ones responsible for the Kali VMware images, but didn't know of a way to get this kind of bug to them. I apologize if this is the wrong place to report this bug.

You can either update your VMware workstation version, or change the virtualHW.version in the vmx file to the version of VMWare you're using.
