Unlike the LIVE version on USB, which works fine, using the INSTALLER version the screen on my laptop unreadable, it's like it can't get the right resolution, or driver. I want to install KALI as a secondary boot.

Steps To Reproduce

"Burn" ISO to USB, insert USB, turn of laptop, press F12 for boot menu, select USB, hit enter, goes to "Welcome to GRUB" beeps twice, hit enter, loads and starts graphical screen, tears all over the place.

Can you send a picture of the issue?
Also, does the issue also happen if you run the installer in the live image instead of the installer-only one?

On the live USB, I don't get a boot screen, it jumps straight into the desktop. but I cant find a installer there.
the attached screen is the same for both the INSTALLER iso and the NET INSTALLER iso

From the installer image, you should have access to both 1) "graphical install" and 2) "install". Option 2 is the console version, did you try it? See screenshots below.

Other things that come to mind: did you try the weekly version if the installer ISO? Click « Weekly » at https://www.kali.org/get-kali/#kali-bare-metal

Look at my first screenshot, you can see that the non-graphical install is the second entry in the menu. So just press down once and press enter. Does that get you somewhere?

if there was a way to get to the non-graphical install like modifying a config file on the USB then That would be helpful

I don't know if there's such an option, sorry.
