Description

The following error appears while updating:

Preparation for unpacking .../desktop-base_12.0.4+kali1_all.deb ...
Unpacking desktop-base (12.0.4+kali1) over (12.0.2+kali1) ...

Fixed with package desktop-base 12.0.4+kali2. This package should be avail from the repos already (or soon). If this package is not yet available for you, as a workaround you can pass -o dpkg::options::=--force-overwrite to apt upgrade to make is succeed.
