Summary | 0008359: South African unix users have an issue with 'apt-get' command
Description | Hi I am a user of Kali Linux and have 2020 version, and have an issue with apt-get, meaning any command requiring the apt command will not work, including 'update' 'upgrade', install etc. So I have seen on various forums that there are others witht he issue but none of them worked and they have different problems, my apt get will not connect at all, I have no network issue, it says connecting 0%, then it displays error messages mainly 404. I have tried all the alternative mirrors but then someone suggested it was due to the South African ip addresses for Kali repo mirrors, pointjng to a faulty one in Kenya, I am hoping not to be forced to use a vpn as my budget is not going to allow me to look into one otherwise that is a suggested fix. I am hoping there is some way I can alternatively make the repository point my DNS to use a mirror in maybe the USA, I'm not from there, so Is there a way to change that, can someone give me an alternative. Please do not remove my question I can rewrite and answer if it makes no sense, lol. Much appreciated
Additional Information | As mentioned I have no vpn, and cannot budget for it now, but there is no guarantee it will work, I ahve tried several ISP so it is not the ISP, also not the network as I have used Wifi and hotspot. I do security work and research online so I really need this help urgently, thanks much
apt-get update I have tried almost every method of changing signatures, keys nothing works, concerned about this please help. My Kali is dual booted not VM. |

I see in the logs above that you're mixing different apt repo, and almost none of them work... In your description you said:
You should download latest image (2023.2) and restart from there. Otherwise, you can fix your error (EXPKEYSIG) by downloading the latest Kali keyring from: https://kali.download/kali/pool/main/k/kali-archive-keyring/kali-archive-keyring_2022.1_all.deb Then install it: « sudo apt install ./kali-archive-keyring_2022.1_all.deb » But then what, if you really have a 2020 version of Kali, and you plan to upgrade it to latest from Kali rolling... I think you're asking for trouble, I'm pretty sure it won't go smoothly. And it seems that you're not able to troubleshoot basic issues by yourself. So I sincerely recommend that you download the latest installer image from https://www.kali.org/get-kali/#kali-installer-images and restart from scratch. I'm also closing this issue as it's not a bug. For community support, I suggest you try the forums, or Discord chat, or IRC: https://forums.kali.org / https://discord.kali.org / #kali-linux on IRC: https://oftc.net/ |
